🎓 Learning Unit Fractions – Year 3 (ACARA Code : AC9M3N02)
🎯Focus: Students will understand that unit fractions represent equal parts of a whole, and be able to recognise and represent unit fractions in different ways, including diagrams and number lines.
What Is a Unit Fraction?
A unit fraction is a fraction where the numerator is 1. It represents one equal part of a whole.
Examples:
- 1/2 means one of two equal parts
- 1/3 means one of three equal parts
- 1/4 means one of four equal parts
For a fraction to be a unit fraction, the whole must be divided into equal parts. Unequal pieces do not form unit fractions.
