📝 Helpful Tips
- Use base-ten blocks, bundled icy-pole sticks, MAB blocks or drawings to build numbers to 1000.
- Practise reading numbers in everyday life, including house numbers, bus numbers, prices, page numbers and sporting scores.
- Ask questions such as, “Which number is greater: 462 or 426? How do you know?”
- Use a hundreds chart to explore patterns: move right to add 1, left to subtract 1, down to add 10 and up to subtract 10.
- Draw open number lines and label known numbers. Encourage children to use equal jumps to find the missing values.
- Use short daily practice sessions of 5–10 minutes to build fluency and confidence with numbers to 1000.
